Somatic Healing

“Somatic" comes from the Greek word "soma," meaning "body." Somatic practices focus on your experience of your body, and recognizing the wisdom and information held within sensations, feelings and emotions.

Somatic Healing is a body-oriented approach to move beyond trauma, harmful patterning, anxiety, dissociation, and to understand the physical manifestations of emotional and energetic wounds.

In these sessions, we use a combination of conversation and somatic tools (breath, sensation tracking, movement, imagery, and sound) to help you learn your body’s language, and develop a rich toolbox of resources that are personal to you. We gently explore this landscape together, and help you to form new pathways towards feeling more connected, present, safe, balanced, and alive.

How does Somatic Healing work?

Every moment of your life is experienced through your body. Most trauma or wounding can't be healed by simply talking about it or thinking about it. This is because the body remembers information based on what an event feels like. Why we feel the way we feel is not always logical, and yet it is visceral and real to each of us.

Somatic work is a way to invite the nervous system to expand its capacity to process, hold and move through information. As we expand this capacity, we strengthen our ability to navigate life’s challenging moments.

By engaging in a healing process from a bottom-up approach (body focused vs. mind focused), we allow the intelligence of the body to guide us to places of discovery and resolve that we couldn’t arrive at through logic alone.

Additionally, a somatic approach opens the door to a vast landscape of skills and tools for self-regulation and emotional resiliency - because in the most activating moments, we can’t think our way out of a trauma response, but we can turn to the resources within the body, within nature, or within our relationships to speak to the nervous system in its native language.

  • "It would be impossible to quantify the impact that Teagan has had on my life since I began working with her. As a movement teacher, sports performance specialist, and doctoral candidate in Human Performance Sport Pedagogy I feel I have a unique view on what qualifies someone as excellent in their field and she is certainly that.”

  • “I now have new tools I can draw upon to root and connect with myself on a daily basis, and especially when riding the larger emotional waves of life. Teagan was a formidable teacher and mentor. Clearly practiced herself and highly knowledgeable of the mind-body relationship.”
    ~ Kendra Williams

  • “Teagan's gift is creating for me a safe place of trust, an atmosphere of openness, a spiritual cocoon of patience, and an advocation of strength and abiding love. Each session I experienced with the help of Teagan, was completely different from each of the previous sessions, but equally enlightening and tremendously rewarding.”

  • Each session will include some kind of grounding activity, supporting you in landing in the present moment as you arrive. From there, each session will also include somatic based tools and practices that may include interoception, breath, gentle movement, vocal work, co-regulation, and more. Every client is unique, and therefore will need different things from me as a spaceholder, and different things depending on the day or the material at hand. I’m committed to being tuned into you and to adapting to support your needs from moment to moment..
